This week, in coffee:

  • Starbucks Workers United released the sequel to last year’s Red Cup Rebellion, creating the largest work stoppage in the company’s history on its busiest day.
  • Coffee pods are a big deal, and they’re often touted as a more sustainable alternative to other brewing methods. But how sustainable are they? Unsurprisingly, it depends on what they’re made of.

There’s no denying the appeal: you remove the little rounded capsule from the box and pop it in the top of the machine, close the lid and hit go. You wait a few seconds, perhaps check your phone, and there it is—a perfectly brewed cup of coffee, with zero hassle.

  • Millennials rejoice/feel old: Death Cab For Cutie’s Transatlanticism and The Postal Service’s Give Up turn 20 this year. To celebrate, both of Ben Gibbard’s bands have released coffees in collaboration with fellow Pacific Northwesters Camber Coffee.
